Dietary Guidelines Based on Your Own Chinese Medicine Pattern Diagnosis

Chinese nutritional guidelines

Liver Imbalances (Liver Qi stagnation, Liver yang rising, Depressive Liver heat, Liver fire)

Avoid Alcohol, coffee, excessive sour foods and drinks, greasy, fatty and oily foods, hard to digest foods (nuts, granola, etc.), heavy red meats, spicy, pungent, “hot” foods, overeating in general.

Digestive weakness (Spleen Qi deficiency, Spleen yang deficiency, Spleen dampness)

Please eat warm, cooked foods, plenty of cooked vegetables, rice, noodles, soups and stews. Cook grains and beans thoroughly so they are easily digestible. Drink a teacup of warm soup, broth or herbal tea with each meal. You may use fresh ginger, cloves, nutmeg, orange peel, and fennel as cooking spices.

 Avoid raw salads, fruits and vegetables, sugar and sweets, cold drinks with meals, echinacea or goldenseal, pork, buckwheat, fruit juices, large doses of vitamin C, dairy products, beer, melons, pears, bananas, lettuce and celery.

Kidney Weakness (Kidney Qi deficiency, Kidney yang deficiency, Kidney Qi not consolidating)

Avoid Alcohol, excessive fluids, artificial sweeteners, chilled and frozen foods and liquids, stimulants and “recreational” drugs, coffee and caffeine.

 

For Kidney Yin and Lung Yin Deficiency

Avoid alcohol, spicy, pungent, “hot” foods, “recreational” drugs, coffee and caffeine, and cigarette smoking.

For Damp Heat (Damp-Heat in Liver/Gallbladder, Spleen, Large Intestine, Lower Burner)

Avoid Sugar and sweets, nuts and nut butters, citrus fruits and juices (especially orange juice), spicy, pungent, “hot” foods, greasy, oily, fried and fatty foods, alcohol, pork and beef.

For Blood deficiency

Eat plenty of cooked green leafy vegetables, easily digestible grains, regular portions of animal protein, aduki and black beans, miso soup, tempeh, tofu, yellow and orange vegetables, seaweeds, cherries and currants.

Avoid sugars, alcohol, stimulants, saturated fats, chemical additives.
