Dietary Recommendations for Diarrhea and Chronic Lyme disease
For Diarrhea and/or loose stools:
Eat: carrots, buckwheat, rice, rice and barley broth, leeks, string beans, eggplant, sunflower seeds, crab apples, olive oil, sweet potatoes, yams, chicken eggs. Porridge of rice, barley or oats is very good to eat during this time. And you can add any foods listed above to the porridge.
- Probiotics: kefir, miso, sauerkraut.
- Helpful spices: cinnamon, fresh and dried ginger, fennel, clove, cayenne, sage, horseradish and thyme, nutmeg. You can season foods with these or make teas.
- Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration. Drink a warm cup or water or broth with every meal to aid digestion.
- Relax when eating. Avoid eating when watching TV, reading or rushing.
- Avoid: honey, spinach, cow’s milk, apricots, plums, sesame seeds, oils, and any foods that are difficult to digest.
For Chronic Lyme Disease:
- Chew foods thoroughly. This is important not only for lyme disease, but for overall healthy digestion. Chewing foods well allows for proper digestion and facilitates absorption of nutrients. Parasites thrive in damp conditions, often created by inadequately digested foods.
- Avoid any undercooked foods: meats, walnuts, lettuce, watercress, parsley and celery. These should not be eaten raw because they may harbor parasites. Roast walnuts and cook vegetables before eating.
- Oregano oil has broad-spectrum antibiotic properties and is beneficial for all dangerous microbes, including the spirochete of Lyme disease. For the pure essential oil, I would recommend one drop daily diluted in a glass of water or in ½ teaspoon or organic olive oil.
- Blackberry root powder: blackberry root is an astringent and binds the stools. Boil 1oz of blackberry root powder in one pint of water for 20 minutes, and drink 1 cup, 3 times a day.
- Foods with anti-parasitic properties (eat plenty of these): beets, carrots, cabbage, garlic,* leek, onion and radish. These vegetables have strong anti-parasitic actions when eaten raw. Roasted pumpkin seeds are very helpful as they kill parasites (you can lightly pan or oven roast them to destroy E-coli on their surface). If you have difficulty digesting fats you can avoid them. But if not, eat roasted pumpkin seeds as snacks and/or with meals.
*Eat 1 raw garlic clove 3 times a day. You can mince it and eat it with other food, or chew whole. Take this regularly for several weeks to initiate substantial improvement. Garlic eliminates toxins from the body, inhibits microorganisms and eliminates worms, unfavorable bacteria and yeasts.
